Abstract | |
The present invention provides a process for fractionating polyunsaturated fatty acid-rich oil from a marine animal source utilizing a supercritical carbon dioxide fluid extraction, wherein the process includes the steps (a) extracting the polyunsaturated fatty acid-rich oil from fish or marine mammals at a predetermined pressure and a predetermined temperature,(b) separating the oil into its various components, (c) pressurizing and soaking the components with pure carbon dioxide for a predetermined period of time, (d) extracting the components for a predetermined period of time and at a predetermined flow rate, (e)collecting the components in a separate trap and (f) analysing the components for fatty acid composition. | |
